"Down River" pg.420

If you were Tally, would you ask the warden to make you pretty?

Yes and no. I would ask him because that was part of the deal that Tally made with Maddy, and she really wants Shay to take the pills so they can both be uglie friends forever. I would say no, because the warden is probably not going to no a single thing about the operation and how it works, because he is a cop!!

"Confessions" pg.415

Tally has finally come clean. Do you think she will regret it? Do you think David will change his mind about her?

I don't think Tally will regret it. She finally told the truth and she can stop lying to everyone she likes. I think David will not change his mind about Tally, because he just loves her too much and he can't cry about her betrayal forever! (unless he is just a big wuss!)

"Hippocratic Oath" pg.405

Should Maddy have forced Shay to take the "cure"? Why or Why not?

I think she shouldn't have, because Shay is having a great time being a pretty, even though she is brain damaged Shay deserves to be happy. If Maddy took that away from Shay that would make Maddy a serious punkasaurus rex!!!

Blogpost #49

"Night Alone" pg.398

If you were Shay, would you get the cure? Why or Why not?

Probably not. There may not be a big risk of dying from the cure, but there is still a chance, so I wouldn't want to take until it was tested on someone else. Also I wouldn't want to go through another transformation, because I would just want to stick with how I am. Also I would be having such a great time as a pretty, I would like the fact of going to awesome parties and dancing with superrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr hot girls!!!

"Getaway" pg.389

Respond to the following quote from the chapter...what does it mean to you? "Tally thought of the lesions on Shay's brain, the tiny cancers or wounds or whatever they are that she didn't even know she had. They were in there somewhere changing her friends thoughts, warping her feelings, gnawing at the roots of who she was."

To me it means that Shay is no longer her normal self. All of her feelings, emotions, and actions as an uglie are gone because of the lesions. Basically Shay is not a Smokie anymore and she is drunk like all of the pretties.

Blogpost #47

"Rescue" pg.382

Give a chronological list of important events in the chapter.Whats the kicker at the end of this chapter?

1. Shay is beautiful
2. Tally and David set they're friends and David's mom free.

The kicker at the end of the chapter is that David's dad dies!!

Blogpost #46

"Inside" pg.374

Is this quote a play on words, or does it have a deeper meaning to the story? "Radiology. Neurology. Magnetic Imaging," she read softly. "Operating Theatre Two."

I think it has a deeper meaning to the story because that might be the rooms where the doctors make the operation or where they study different things.

What "labels" do Tally and David find in the Special Circumstances building? Give a brief description of what you think each means.

They find Radiology, Neurology, Magnetic Imaging, Operating Theatre Two, Morgue, Interrogation Room One, Interrogation Roome Two, Isolation Room One, Disorientation Room One, and Long Term Detention. I think that Radiology is a room where they learn about radiation. I think Neurology is a room wher doctors learn about the operation. I think Magnetic Imaging is where they take x-rays of the operation patients. I think Operating Theatre Two is one of the operating rooms. I think the Morgue is where they keep dead bodies. I think Interrogation Room One and Two are where some Uglies are asked questions. I think Isolation Room one is where prisoners are kept. Disorientation room is probably where they put the uglies to sleep. Long Term Detention is probably where bad uglies are kept for a long long time.

Describe Shay's appearance at the end of the chapter.

> tall and elegant
> eyes-deep and soulful
> every feature perfection

"Over the Edge" pg.367

In this chapter a few uglies go to New Pretty Town to do a "trick." They make the words "THE SMOKE LIVES" with sparklers. If you had ONE chance to post a message important to you, what would it be and why?

My message would be " THE PRESIDENT NEEDS TO BE VOTED OUT IN '12 BECAUSE HE IZ A DICKtator! I would put that because the president really does need to be voted out of office, and soon before this country becomes nothing!

Blogpost #44

"Accomplices" pg.359

The Uglies met in this chapter are similar to Tally at the beginning of the book. When you compare her to these Uglies, how has Tally changed and what has made her change?

Tally doesn't want to be pretty anymore and she is more accustomed to the wild and being able to take care of herself. I think that David and Shay has made her change. Also being out in the wild and being at the Smoke for a while made Tally change drastically.

Blogpost #43

"Familiar Sights" pg.348

Do you think Tally's plan will work? David wants to save his parents, but what's driving Tally? Do you think she is crazy, or are her feelings valid?

I think the plan will work because the bungee jacket will probably catch Tally and David before they splat on the ground. I think that being with David and wanting to save Shay and all of her other Smokey friends is driving Tally. I don't think Tally is very crazy because she just wants to save David's parents and her friends really badly.

Blogpost #42

"Oil Plague" pg.340

How do David and Tally describe the Rusties? Is it accurate?

They described the Rusties as very stupid and crazy, but they said that some of them had the right idea because people of the future still use Rustie's technology. I think they're right because I would have just walked if everyone else was dying in the cars.

What are weaknesses in our society?

We have wayyy to much debt and are country is going to heck in a handbasket if Bam-Bam isn't taken out of office.

What are weaknesses in their society?

In David's and Tally's society, they care too much about being pretty and going to awesome parties, instead of more important things like finding new ways of technology or sometining like that.

A time when we weren't prepared was hurricane katrina. It was one of the most devastating hurricanes ever!!Hurricane Katrina of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season was the costliest hurricane,[3][4] as well as one of the five deadliest, in the history of the United States.[5] Among recorded Atlantic hurricanes, it was the sixth strongest overall.
Hurricane Katrina formed over the Bahamas on August 23, 2005 and crossed southern Florida as a moderate Category 1 hurricane, causing some deaths and flooding there before strengthening rapidly in the Gulf of Mexico. The storm weakened before making its second landfall as a Category 3 storm on the morning of Monday, August 29 in southeast Louisiana. It caused severe destruction along the Gulf coast from central Florida to Texas, much of it due to the storm surge. The most severe loss of life occurred in New Orleans, Louisiana, which flooded as the levee system catastrophically failed, in many cases hours after the storm had moved inland.[6] Eventually 80% of the city and large tracts of neighboring parishes became flooded, and the floodwaters lingered for weeks.[6] However, the worst property damage occurred in coastal areas, such as all Mississippi beachfront towns, which were flooded over 90% in hours, as boats and casino barges rammed buildings, pushing cars and houses inland, with waters reaching 6-12 miles (10-19 km) from the beach.
At least 1,836 people lost their lives in the actual hurricane and in the subsequent floods, making it the deadliest U.S. hurricane since the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane. Economist and crisis consultant Randall Bell wrote: "Hurricane Katrina in 2005 was the largest natural disaster in the history of the United States. Preliminary damage estimates were well in excess of $100 billion, eclipsing many times the damage wrought by Hurricane Andrew in 1992."[7]
The levee failures prompted investigations of their design and construction which belongs to the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) as mandated in the Flood Control Act of 1965 and into their maintenance by the local Levee Boards. There was also an investigation of the responses from federal, state and local governments, resulting in the resignation of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) director Michael D. Brown, and of New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) Superintendent Eddie Compass. Conversely, the United States Coast Guard (USCG), National Hurricane Center (NHC) and National Weather Service (NWS) were widely commended for their actions, accurate forecasts and abundant lead time.[8]
Four years later, thousands of displaced residents in Mississippi and Louisiana were still living in trailers. Reconstruction of each section of the southern portion of Louisiana has been addressed in the Army Corps LACPR Final Technical Report which identifies areas not to be rebuilt and areas and buildings that need to be elevated.

Describe the irony in Tally's "victory" over Dr. Cable. What was lost in the process?

Tally wasn't really victorious over Dr. Cable. Special Circumstances still made it to the Smoke, and it was all Tally's fault. All of Tally's friends except for David were lost in the process. Also the Smoke was destroyed. "Great victory Tally!!"

"Amazing" pg.319

Is David right? Is Tally amazing? Do you think she should feel guilty? Why or Why not?

I think Tally is amazing because she can actually get dirty and not say "Owwwww... I broke my newly manicured nail!" I think she should feel guilty though, because she is kissing all over David, while Shay is getting dragged back to the city, and she is the one who caused the invasion in the first place!

Blogpost #38

"Run" pg.313

Who is the voice in the dark? Do you think it will be a friend or enemy to Tally? What do you think Tally will do now?

I think the voice in the dark is one of the Smokies, probably David. I think this because the night before the invasion he went on a midnight stroll. I think Tally will go farther into the dark to see where the voice came from.

Blogpost #37

"In Case of Damage" pg.304

Explain what self preservation means to you. Is it the most important thing? Would you lie because of it?

I think self preservation is when you protect yourself to keep out of harms way. I don't think it's the most important thing because it protecting you, and everyone around you is getting hurt. I would not lie, because lying is not good and it's just down right wrong to lie about something as silly as that.

Blogpost #36

"The Rabbit Pen" pg.297

Tally had changed her mind about the Smoke and the operation, but what will she do about all of that now? Whose side is she on?

I think Tally will escape Dr. Cable and help all of her Smokie friends, because she likes them and has especially grown to like David. I think that Tally is on the Smokies side because she doesn't want to betray Shay and David, and she has become to like the Smoke.

Blogpost #35

"Invasion" pg.287

Is the climax of the book? Explain why or why you don't think so in a few sentences.

I think it is because their is so much action going on in this one chapter. Also Special Circumstances finally arrived and their taking all the Smokies back to their designated cities. Also Tally is caught by a Special and is taken away.

Blogpost #34

"Burning Bridges" pg.269

Read the following quote David says to Tally. "What you do, the way you think, makes you beautiful." Name one person in your personal life and one in your academic life.. what makes this person beautiful?

My mommy is beautiful because she has brown eyes like me and she is on a diet, which is making her look even more gorgeus! The girl at school that I think is pretty is beautiful because she has good looks, a good personality, and is pretty smart, (also has a nice body of course!)

Respond to the following quote, what does it mean to you/to the story? "Becoming pretty doesn't just change the way you look...it changes the way you think." How would you want to change mentally and phisically if you were pretty?

> I would want to be 6 foot tall
> I would want to have bigger muscles (even though I already have some big guns)
> I would want to be better at every subject
> Have no allergies
> no glasses (perfect vision)
> be able to eat vegetables better!!

"The Secret" pg.253

What does the following quote tell you about the city and society in general?"But you do know about genetics don't you? Sure I know all about genes. I knew two sisters, uglies, who looked almost the same. But parents and children? That's just weird."

I think the city didn't think that children and parents should look alike, and thats why they have doctors who do the operation. Also that is probably why they seperate the child and the parents at Tally's home.

Predict what you think "pretty" is.

I think pretty is just having no flaws at all on your body or in your mind or no flaws for bad habits. Also I think that being pretty is looking your best all the time and caring about how you look.

Blogpost #31

"Bravery" pg.243

Find an example of imagery, personification and simile. Quote directly and give pg numbers.

Imagery: "Now sitting next to her, David seemed very real. He took the world more seriously than any other ugly she'd ever met-more seriously, in fact, than middle pretties like her parents. In a funny way, his eyes held the same intensity that the cruel pretties' had, though without their coldness."pg.246

Simile: "Dr. Cables pendant seemed to grow heavier and heavier, wound around her neck as tightly as the vines, brush, and roots grasping the railroad tracks."pg.243

Personification: " She thought of the orchids spreading across the plains below, choking the life out of other plants, out of the soil itself, selfish and unstoppable." pg.244

Does it require bravery to meet David's parents, why or why not?

I think so, because Tally was uneasy of David's parents when David talked to her about them. I also think it would be awkward for her to see old people who are uglies.

Blogpost #30

"Suspicion" pg.229

Do you think Shay has a right to be jealous of Tally? Why or why not?

Yes, because Shay has liked David longer than Tally, and Shay works hard to show off to David. Also Shay thinks that Tally has a different love, and Shay thinks it wouldn't be cool to like two people at the same time.

Tally received a gift from David in the chapter that is special. Have you ever received something that made others jealous as this gift did? Did your gift have a meaning behind it as Tally's had?

I got an xbox 360 from my brother on my birthday and my friends were very jealous of me... but my brother gave it to me because he loves me, of course!!!

Blogpost #29

"Heartthrob" pg.220

Why would it have been easier for Tally to activate the pendant when she got to the Smoke? Explain.

She wouldn't have to lie to Shay and David. Also it would make her fell better if she got it over with ASAP.

Blogpost #28

"David" pg.212

If David's parents were doctors, why do you think they ran away? Support your answer with textual evidence.

I think David's peeps ran away because they didn't want to be pretty anymore. I think they thought being pretty like everyone else was just not right. "they reversed the operation?" "yes." "they cut each other? out here in the wild? "to make themselves..."

"Work" pg.203
I think this is beautiful because the sky is so clear and the water is very nice. Also the landforms on the left side are very nice looking (like me!). To me there is nothing ugly about this except for the fact that one day it might be polluted.
